How to Turn Off Javascript in TOR
In this article, we will see how to turn off the javascript tor browser. Several people have asked me this question so, I decided to answer it with this article. Many people use the TOR browser but don’t disable javascript however it’s recommended to do it because some sites may exploit vulnerabilities by using javascript. For example in the past vulnerability allowed websites to see the real IP of tor users. So, in this article, I will tell you three methods to disable javascript in the TOR browser.
Three methods to turn off javascript in TOR
First method
- Search “about:config” in the TOR browser, then click on the “Accept the risk and continue” button.
- Now, you type “javascript.enabled” in the search box.
- You can see it’s the javascript.enabled is true, so javascript is enabled. If you double click on “True”, it will change to “False”, so it means javascript isn’t anymore enabled.
Second Method
This method might be for you if you want to live in JavaScript sometimes on some websites.
- Click the “Add to Firefox” button and click “Continue to Install”.
- After installation, you will click the “add” button.
- As you can see you have this logo and when it’s grayed out the javascript is disabled and when it is green javascript is enabled.
Third Method
- Click “Menu” on the top right, then click “Options“.
- Then you click on “privacy and security“.
- On security by default, the standard is on. You can click safest and when it’s on safest javascript is disabled by default on all sites.
So, that was the third method and I think it’s the easiest one.
Conclusion
Now to be even more secure, I recommend you to use a VPN individually secure. VPN and TOR are very good tools to control confidentiality but when you combine the true it creates an amazing combination. The VPN will provide an extra layer of security to fill in potential vulnerabilities inter. So, if there is a vulnerability entered but you are using a VPN then your IP address that will be visible will be the VPN server’s IP address and not yours.
